I don't believe so. Soldiers have always had psychological problems with killing people. I've heard plenty of veterans saying stuff like "I killed so many people, fuck!"
I for example feel sad when I hear good people dieing in accidents and so on... I didn't knew anyone from the 9.11 catastrophy but I felt sad for those people and their families...and so did many other people on this planet. I wasn't depressed but I didn't enjoy at all receiving the news.
Natural conservation is sometimes more powerful than natural selection in my belief...but I would prefer to speak in terms of humanity instead of evolutionary psychology. Too many writers, poets and artists have tried to make us feel more than smarter monkeys... so I'll make them that joy
I believe people are capable of compassion or empathy without being conditioned to do so.
