The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

My Intro to Philosophy teacher stated that the above movie had a deep philosophical message within it. I'll be watching it tonight. I'll write back my report about it in a few hours.

This teacher also went on to say The Matrix is by far the densest movie on philosophy! 8-)

Is it possible, that this man, may be on the same level as us? I'm not sure at the moment...time will tell. :geek:

This is not in reference to your teacher, as I have never met him, but I find there are a number of levels at which this film can be understood. Different people 'get it' at different levels. I find the same thing with the 'Social Matrix' itself. When I say 'different levels', I mean different both in terms of depth of seeing through it, as well as facet (religious, economic, geopolitical, cultural, relationship, sexual, etc.)

Take for example a guy I know who was totally blown away by it when it first came out. He saw how truly profound & revolutionary it was. Despite this, I still found him to be extremely conformist in cultural, relational, and sexual matters, although he thinks he 'gets it' because he has seen through the religious, economic, and geopolitical matrices. For myself, I always saw through it to a far greater degree than he (and most people around me) did, and yet this forum here still managed to 'bake my noodle'.

I guess both the film and this forum here, as well as life itself, come down to ultimately the same thing: we only see what we have the courage to see.

Side note: one day it may be an idea to start a subsection within the "The World Around Us: LoA, Social Matrix" section of this forum that deals with all the other areas of the matrix, as the forum overall deals mainly with the relational and sexual matters (along with self-development). Or maybe not, who knows........

Back to my push-ups 8-) .

PS - I look forward to your review on The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.

I fell asleep last night, but had time to finish it this morning...

It was an interesting movie. Great soundtrack. Bill Murray is great!

Looking back...I was too focused on finding the philosophical message within the movie as I was watching it. As a result...I missed it. (getting in my own way)

I looked for something complex and significant, but the message seemed to be simple. Life is a bunch of things mixed together: revenge, pain, love, happiness. It all comes in one package.

I had to visit another's opinion on what they believed the message to be:
