Personally I either would suggest music without words as such.

By this I mean that the focus of the music is not the lyrical content, words can be part of the music so you almost do not hear them as you would speech but as a musical instrument, part of the soundscape that the whole sound provides.

I have found myself that a lot of the times any lyrical content gets in the way of shutting down the 'thinking' brain, as even a couple of phrases can trigger it back. Much better and consistent results (especially for longer sessions) by using music without a strong lyrical content.

I will add that lyrics in a language you do not understand are sortof exempt, because your thinking brain does not identify them instead it reads the emotions within the projection of the words. (I really enjoy listening to opera, even though I purposefully do not understand the words, the emotional projection is awesome)

So my list would include a lot of classical music, opera, some Hanz Zimmer, some of Enya's stuff.

I also include some ambient dance music as some of that seems to have a strong effect on me in getting into a meditative but alert mental state (Astral Projection, Hallucinogen etc)

For myself, classical and opera really seems to do it.

Being a libertine, of course I love classical music. Aside from that I love Emilie Autumn alot. She's a sort of gothic industrial version of chamber music. Very victorian. When I want some metal I head to Amon Amarth to hear songs about Odin.

I love classical music, Jazz, swing and blues.

rock bands like: Green day and Creed

Hans Zimmer of course 8-) I have:

'The power of one' soundtrack
'The Last Samurai' soundtrack
'the devinci code' soundtrack
'Gladiator' Soundtrack

2 more great soundtracks:

'The Last of the Mohicans soundtrack' -Trevor Jones
DannyElfman-'Batman Returns Soundtrack'-1992

Enya-'paint the sky with stars'- I love this one!

And Norah Jones, my favorite album is:

'Norah Jones- Live in New Orleans' I can't get enough of it, get it if you can. It has great value
because you also hear her laugh and giggle when she talks to the audience.

I got a lot of music from this site:

It's cheap and in download format...
