Last time I posted on this it was a question. Brainwave Entrainment is the latest 'big thing' in the self help industry, it comes from the zen monks being able to access states of great wellbeing according to the entrainment products "because of the deepness of their meditation"
Now anyone that has done mindfulness meditation knows full well how these monks achieved this state of well being and that it had nothing to do with 'how deep' they were.

Brainwave Entrainment is actually kinda dangerous, there are some real horror stories out there of things going pear shaped, them suffering from the symptoms of schizophrenia as a result of using brainwave entrainment it seems.

Here's the science bit as it relates to 'alpha waves'. Alpha waves improve creativity, creativity is connected to the imagination, the imagination is connected to the amount of dopamiene in your system. Too much creativity brainwaves=increase in dopamiene= hallucinations including hearing voices or in my case being possessed by demons.

TL ; DR

Its a load of hooey.

What are your experiences of brainwave entrainment if any?

in the past I tried to meditate with Binaural Beats.

this program:

http://www.meditationprogram.com/meditation/

results: those Binaural Beats didn't make my mind more calm, but more busy :|
and at some point it got really irritating to hear those sounds so I dropped it.

Yeah be careful with those brainwave entrainment programs...follow the directions and make sure you aren't exposing too long. Also make sure you don't just start out in that state. I was doing Theta for a couple days in a row and I got locked in a state that I was not happy to be in...lets say it was pretty scary ;P

I'm intrigued now, I'm fascinated by Theta state because its the state you go in to to have psychic phenomena happen! What exactly happened to you?
I always wanted to get a theta CD so I can access my parapsychological abilities!

Yeah I noticed that it doesn't really do much to calm the mind, I used it and thought I was in a "now state" but what was really going on was I used it too much and my mind was completely blank and made me irrationally angry.

I just felt half asleep and half awake and couldn't get out of it for hours. I felt like I was in this dream world in a kinda way and went outside, I just felt really weird. It's hard to explain.

It didn't help that I developed Anxiety Disorder at the same time and believed the world was going to end on a daily basis lol now that just made matters worse ;)

Aztech, these brainwave materials sound like they're doing more harm than good.

Mental clarity, confidence, self awareness etc. don't come from these programs, these are things you naturally develop yourself, if you're going to experiment with meditation do it on your own rather than through band-aid solutions, they'll only get in the way.

Sounds scary, glad you woke up! I thought you were going to tell me you had an outer body experience or something cos weird things happen in Theta. I once did something called 'remote viewing' while in Theta.

I'm pretty sure the brainwave entrainment contributed to my developing schizophrenia too. That and the voodoo ritual and kundalini meditation I did!

You're right, they don't really do anything anyway.

Well...it was pretty crazy but I'm sure some of it contributed to my crash last summer where I went from being and feeling on top of the world to complete anxiety ridden that couldn't leave my house for months with severe suicidal depression. I literally felt I was going to die all day every day. But there were a large number of issues going on at the time that I did overcome by January and into this year, much much stronger. At the time I was also trying gamma rays for a while and I over-used it by doing it 2x a day for a few months. That probably sparked the anxiety disorder ;)

If poison makes you ill why would you willingly keep drinking it?.

are we mixing the cure with the poison? why are we entertaining so much stuff which is considered "hooey", "band aids" etc.? it's cool to have discussions on things we are for and against, but... :| this is just entertaining other form of things which will inevitably impede your growth.

That's what I'm saying dude but I'm officially done with this topic.

Aztech, for your own sake, stay away from this bullshit (binaural beats etc.) you'll regain your sanity over time.

Well I'm glad you're alright now! If you'd like to know a cool way to meditate I posted a brilliant mindfulness meditation here: http://www.naturalfreedom.info/viewtopi ... =19&t=1511
No binaural beats or any of that just pure mindfulness!

I was saying in my review how its a load of bollox and that feeling of inner peace comes from a different way of meditating and not from the brain producing alpha waves or whatever. I wanted to know what other people's experience of brainwave entrainment was.

I learned A LOT during this process. I also pretty much whipped out all of my old fears. When you're sitting around believing you're going to die or atleast your mind is tricking you that you will suffer and die, you tend to rethink a lot of things in your life and also no longer fear death. Anyways, I was put onto pills for months and just recently came off and I still retain everything the pills helped with but also the stuff I did during the time on them to change my mindset and way I look at things. I also got over my severe fear of flying ;)

They do help, but all I'm saying is be very careful and follow instructions. There is no evidence that the beats did this to me...as I said, there were many other influences during this period (stress, smoking withdrawals, supplements I was using, BE, etc.). Even though I had the anxiety before-hand, it just got to an unbearable point during this time ;)
