Interesting to watch TED talk. I agree with half her advice - 20s are the perfect time to build social capital and make something of yourself. But the other half of her advice reeks powerfully of marquee value...

That's because it doesn't apply to women, you goofball. :|

It may make them feel better to think so, but it doesn't. :geek:

The part when she says she picked her hubby at 30 because he seemed like the only chair available to sit in? It's like she somehow stole my 'musical chairs' analogy wholesale.

For women, 20 is the new 20...30 might as well be the new 45. :geek:

For us? Hell, I just turned 40 sooooo...40 is the new 20.

Only women become old. Men become distinguished.

Then again, it seems that men don't become distinguished automatically either. I come across many, many men who have not aged well at all. Women may waste their lives by squandering their youth & beauty, but many men waste their lives by not growing.

Also, is it my imagination, or are girls losing their looks much more rapidly these days? Some balloon, some become gaunt; this always used to happen before, but i'm now seeing it happen to some of them before they even hit 24. Or maybe i'm just seeing more shit than I used to (been happening lately).

I really like this post, roark. I'm glad someone has mentioned it.

That's not age - that's health.

Not sure what you mean by this, care to elaborate?

No. Not your imagination whatsoever. But again, this is a health issue. A choice issue. A lifestyle issue. Just like the men you observed.

It has almost nothing to do with passage of time or greater rate devolution. But it is very easy to think so given the rate at which it appears to be happening. But it can only ever happen that way...! How how divine is that?

It is not your imagination.

It is nothing to do with age, or time, as Scarf mentions.

The outer does reflect the inner.

Just ponder why their outer deteriorates so rapidly nowadays compared to times gone past?

You already know the answers

Gotcha. As civilisation progresses, we are more & more encouraged to focus on the outer world, to the exclusion of the inner. The inner therefore deteriorates & shrivels (due to neglect - like Roger's conscience for any 'American Dad' fans out there  ) more rapidly with every new generation. As a matter of fact, the 'gaunt' ones I described - their outer reflects how I envisage their inner to be. Then again, the 'bloaters' are probably also an accurate representation of their inner world.

Just that MANY women waste their youth & looks on ego tripping ("Look at how many guys I can manipulate! Yipee!") without cultivating any real qualities like intelligence or depth - or the personality to bring the best out of the people they interact with. And they NEVER end up with a partner that can satisfy them - not to mention the fact that true satisfaction comes from within. And i'll wager that even with all the money they can fleece from men through the divorce courts, they can't shake the feeling, deeply buried as it may be, that they are fucking losers.

And tied to what 'Grinus said, the stony 'fronting face' seems to stick after a while - many women who I see jogging, at the mall, etc. are young and pretty, but the look of misery or contempt on their faces makes them deeply unattractive to me. Inside showing up on the outside again. When they get old they're gonna be ugly as fuck  . Have actually seen the end product of this as well, and it ain't pretty......

I'm now in a state where I feel a kind of compassion for them. Nothing that lowers my mood or anything - it's actually a nice feeling in and of itself. But nothing I can do or say can help them.

In contrast, I know one woman who seems to have escaped this trap, and is EXTREMELY sexually appealing despite being in her early 50's with wrinkles. The irony is that chatting with her has revealed that she doesn't seem to care that she's single, likes doing things by herself (her own best friend), and seeks solitude on a regular basis. Sound familiar?

you are saying that with the assumption as if they don't know.
women know when they have/or are about to "hit" the wall. that's why they know when they have a sucker, they know a Man in his rightful mind wouldn't really give them the time of day. they usually start pushing for "relationship upgrades" at this moment.

Good advice, but obviously not really directed at us.

If all it takes if some soothing words telling you to waste time and energy not setting yourself up to rob you of your ambition then that's just natural selection at work.

All of this is very amusing to me, because they're over looking the fact that they destroyed their way of escaping M value

Absolutely. Not to be too self-congratulatory, but once you know about Marquee Value, and the social matrix in general, you can see right through this kind of advice and look at the forces going on underneath.

She is giving advice to women re: don't wait until Marquee Value catches up to you to get married, and to men re: don't wait until Marquee Value is in your favor - settle now while you are at a disadvantage. This is the bad advice she gives.

She's also giving advice to both men and women (but I think mostly to men) to make something of yourself in your 20s - don't wait until you're 30 to start building. This is the good advice she gives.

It really plays right into Marquee Value, and mirrors the advice given on this forum. Make something of yourself, work on yourself, deal with older women who's value has declined while you're building yourself up, and then when Marquee Value hits, you're perfectly set up.

Took the words straight out of my mouth Meraki. Or as she put it- "identity capital". Another thing I've noticed about women my age (early twenties), or at least some of them, is that they are so dependent. It's like sometimes you can see through their whole act of trying to look sex and you just see their inner child, fearful of being alone. I have my own insecurities to deal with. Don't need more baggage on my back. Besides, a girl who can look after herself and "independent" so to speak are far more attractive in my opinion.

I noticed that I was almost brainwashed into focusing on finding the "one" in my early twenties. Fuck! Back to the drawing board for me.
