I thought about why each gender, going through the same experience, are affected differently and bring about different outcomes. One reason that came to mind is that when a man is in a long-term-relationship he becomes content/comfortable and as a result no longer works to improve or keep himself up. ...and think about your second point again...if women are the ones bring pursued, then doesn't that put them in control of who they 'allow' to catch them?
With women (generally speaking)...it's always a seller's market.
