Please watch the part when inmate descibes what he has done. I would like to know what are your observations.
I got a few of my own, and a feedback from same kind of person with few interesting clues.

Ok so since nobody replied I'll talk to myself and maybe someone find it useful later on.

Look at this guy's eyes. He's twisted, psychotic yeah. But on the other hand there is this calm. I've seen that 'kind' of look before few times:
1. One person was a former mercenary I met in Berlin, who at young age join Legion Etrangere later was fighting in Kongo and some other parts in the world. When we talked I asked him how can be so calm after all the things that he has done and seen. His answer:
I accepted who I am, and I see what the world really is. Take no bullshit from nobody, this world is an unforgiving place, there's no pie in the sky when you die. People say you can't do this can't do that and moment later they will do that to you. So be always aware of that and don't expect mercy from others. You're life will be much safer and less stressful after you accept that.

2. Second person was former member of certain Irish national society;) I met in Belfast. we spent hours talking about situation there, at one moment I noticed that he's trying to manipulate me to justify their deeds (back then I was holier than thou kind of guy). I told him that, he smiled and said well that works for most people LOL. After that the whole dynamics changed, he was open about his views. Basically he said same thing as the person I mentioned before but he added one more point. When he talked about he's youth he told me that he accepted that there's only two ways out after getting involved in the conflict - death or prison. He said something like that 'I acknowledged that what I will be doing is not seen as proper in the society. But when I realized I can do those things it felt great.

Both this guys went through shit during their lives. Both accepted the life the way it is. Both knew that they are able to do things most people wouldn't do. I know they're different from the scumbag from the video but it boils down to the same point to me. All these guys quit the system.

In building a statue, a sculptor doesn't keep adding clay to his subject.He keeps chiseling away at the inessentials until the truth of its creation is revealed without obstructions. Perfection is not when there is no more to add,but no more to take away.

accepting who you are, and benefits from it.

Not only accepting who you are, but accepting society for what it is. Though I think the two examples you named were much better than the criminal story. The criminal may have been on a similar track to the two men you mentioned, but diverged somewhere along the path.

Maybe the criminal could accept himself but could not accept society, hence the reason why he is in jail.

Purely speculation as i didn't watch the video
