I've been occupying myself with certain questions about life, human interactions and so forth. So far, these are my conclusions.
What I've come to realize is that people are driven by self interest and everyone manipulates. If people looked at other's actions rather than their words, everybody would be considered selfish. People use other human beings, pets, and even children as sources of affection.
I came to this conclusion partly by watching people grieve for the dead. The living person will grieve, but only out of emptiness of what the diseased person provided them. "What will you miss most about this person?" General answers are: His/her sense of humor, kindness, and etc.
Anything that can be taken away is conditional. Love, for example does not exist as the average person knows it. It's purely based on material feelings; looks, financial situation, status, and the like. I saw this when looking at couples. Rarely does a woman ever stick around when a man becomes financially unstable. She hounds him, and if he doesn't get back on his feet quick enough she's gone. Surely she didn't love him for, well for him.
Women truly have the upper hand in this world, no matter how much men deny this. As you can easily see on television, when a man cheats he's the worst enemy. But when a woman cheats, if she cries enough it's perfectly okay and people will run to her aid. A man works his ass off for the family, he's the backbone. But yet somehow the woman is still the center of attention. They're smarter than men think they are. Guys really think they're controlling the relationship, when really it's the woman. Women just let them think that to play on their egos until they capture them.
No matter how ugly it is, if you apply logic, it's the truth. Just because it's ugly does not mean it isn't true.
Upon realizing this, you can either -
1. Sugar coat everything
2. See the world as a horrible place
or
3. See things how they are, accept them, and make the best of them. Oh, and occasionally laugh because you can see through everybody's bullshit.
I prefer three.
