So anyhoo I got moved into management at my job...so now my hours are much less taxing and actually allow me to do stuff in the evenings. I caught wind of a 'Neo Soul' mixer (read: Black people party) at a casino in town yesterday from 6p to 10p...so I decided on a whim to pop in...and boy am I glad I did.
It was sponsored by a Black fraternity known as the "Q's"...I never pledged so don't ask me shit about the Black Greek system...but because of that I had a feeling I would see some people that I knew back in my college days from '98-'00. I was business casual in dress...khakis, polo shirt and shoes. I've been in the gym since the beginning of the year so I'm no fat ass...I really don't look any different than I did in those days, I reckon.
I get in there, and I see a whole LOT of familiar faces...took me back to a trying time in my life. All of the guys I recognized...I knew that they were intimidated by me in school...and the look in their eyes told me that they weren't any less hateful...and some of these cats I haven't seen (nor seen me) in literally 10+ years. Seeing the 'Oh SHIT!' on their faces...the fear in their eyes as they tightened their grips on their women (if they had one)...made me feel MAGNIFICENT. I reveled in that feeling...I then knew that night would be special.
First person I spot is this chick that EVERYBODY had the hots for back in school...we'll call her Denise. I've seen Denise once a blue moon cause she works at a casino here in town cock-tailing. I see her, she 'doesn't see me'. I resist the urge to get her attention and chill. Eventually as I continue to scan my perimeter she acknowledges me...I give a polite nod with a smirk.
For the record, I still wouldn't kick her out of my bed...but at the same time, I'm not making any effort to get her into it either. Time has been somewhat kind to her, but you can tell she is still past her prime. Still cute in the face...but a lot thicker in the waist. Her arms aren't toned...she just looks slightly worn in general. More on her later.
Then I spot another female I knew from school...this one I had the pleasure of getting to know intimately. I stroll up and say hello...she looks at me and says, 'How do I know you?'...I leaned in her ear and cooly replied, 'Evelyn...we had sex about 8 years ago."...the look on her face was priceless. Once she got over her shock and began to put the pieces together, we sat down on a bench outside in the rarely moist desert air...it was drizzling.
She starts instantly grilling me...what do you do now? Where do you work? She grabs my left hand, rubs my ring finger and says, "Why aren't you married?"...I reply, "I guess I just haven't bumped into the right one yet.". She is 33...never married, bartends at a local casino...no kids...and in about the same physical condition as Denise. Meanwhile, Denise slowly saunters over to where I am sitting with Evelyn. I'm sitting at the edge of the bench...at this point Evelyn is making it a point to get my phone number. Denise squats down beside me (Evelyn is on my left)...a submissive posture. When I was in school, this chick wouldn't even acknowledge me...she was too busy dating the athletes and frat boys. So now here she is...trying to catch up with someone she doesn't really know...and it is as awkward as it sounds, especially since I am basically carrying on two conversations simultaneously at this point, alternating between the two. I'm sure to the innocent bystanders it looked rather...unnatural.
Denise manages to find out what I do for a living now as well and that seems to interest her quite a bit. Evelyn is roughly the same age...single mom of 1. She eventually stands up, says she'll get at me later, and walks off. She shows me her teeth anytime we make eye contact for the rest of the evening. It would have been so easy to give her my number...but I'll see her again...I want to savor these moments.
Evelyn gets up too after managing to procure my number...she promptly texted me to make sure she had the number right. This morning she also texted me a picture of her face after she was ready for work with a good morning...I didn't ask for all of that.
NOW...for the main event.
I was chillin' a bit later, absorbed in my phone, when I hear this, 'HEY!"...I look up, quickly assume it wasn't for me as I barely heard it over the din of the DJ anyway and carried on. Something told me to look up once more and there she was...I had seen this woman a few times at the bar, and she had definitely caught my eye...tall, slender, beautiful and extremely sexy. Dudes were definitely on this one...and here she was trying to get MY attention. I can't recall ever seeing her before in my past. Our eyes met...she beckoned me to sit with her...I respected her move since she initiated. We chatted easily...39 (looked in her 20's easily!
), bartender, single mother of 1...then all of a sudden, a wild hater appears! 
Without breaking stride, he leans into her ear and says something while grabbing her hand and giving her a kiss on the cheek...THEN he acknowledged me. I knew him...definitely one of the 'shook' boys from my college days. We had made eye contact a few times that evening...he could have said something to me at any one of those times...so it was very obvious what was going on. She was a bit thrown off too...she said she didn't think she knew him. That is neither here nor there to me...I could care less...shit was hella funny tho cause she was ALL OVER ME IN FRONT OF GOD AND EVERYBODY...which of course made the rest of the nosy bitches in there start paying CLOSE attention to yours truly.
I give her my number...she calls me immediately and so then I have hers. She also texted me this morning.
In conclusion, it was a nice return to form for me following all of the drama I've had of late...I feel like I am back where I need to be mentally, and it feels GREAT. I'm going to be headed back into my cave for a bit...want to bulk up and lean out a bit more, buy my new house and finish my personal episode of The Maury Show before I really get back out there...so haters, enjoy your head start while you still can.
