I've heard people say before: just be yourself.

Well, does 'just be yourself' mean be the un-confident and nervous person you are?

I disagree. When you act like an unconfident or nervous person, it's not really you, but rather a mask you don. It's bullshit that has been taught to you throughout your life and it was never part of who you are. You might act unconfident around women or your boss, but you might be the leader of your group of friends and a helpful child when you're with your parents. So which one of them is the "true you"?

Stripping back and taking away habits that you've unwillingly picked up will reveal the true you and allow you to be yourself. It's bullshit pseudo advice if interpreted incorrectly.

your real self is not un-confident\ nervous...

the un-confident\ nervous person you think you are is just something you picked up from social conditioning and life experiences.

For example (this is a general example not saying it's everyone's situation):

a lot of men are not nervous at all around women during elementary school and they certainly don't see women as some sort of creatures who are above them.

In fact, a lot of men\boys during elementary school think women are dumb and don't even want to hang out with them.

Then something changes....

Of course there is an hormonal and physical change that creates physical attraction towards women.
but the fact that these men are afraid of talking to women or see them as creatures above them is not due to the hormonal change. It's picked up with social conditioning.....

so in the example above, for those men: being themselves around women is being the same way they were during elementary school (no fear, no looking at women as above them).

^ Internalize that and then you won't be afraid to be yourself, you'll be your true self, totally fine with who you are and you won't be able to beat the pussy off with a stick.

Actually this slice of advice is often misquoted ... it should read ~ "Be yourselves"
Who says you only get one?

Well Mr. Rant why do you think we have so many "Selves" ~ (Beliefs) ... What are they for?

Who built them, under what circumstances or intentions ... And what were the other people's (beliefs about you) when they installed them into you?

You see Mr. Rant, you can accept most things as "truth" long enough to discover for yourself if it is effective for you or not. Who knows ... some of this post may not be effective for you now ~ but it might be later, as your understanding and experience grows.

no idea, that changes how you relate with people, instead of trying to "be yourself" let them be whatever they want to be or believe.
