Malcolm Gladwell's Outliers: The Story of Success is mentioned in the video as well.

At the end of the video:
Quote:
The major barrier to skill acquisition isn't intellectual.. It's emotional

You focus on the barriers?

Focus on getting that skill.

Looking back at this thread I now disagree with it's approach. Yes, it's possible that in 20 hours of practice you may be good at a skill; that may be true. My tiff with it is that if you enjoy doing something, really enjoy doing something, the amount of time it takes to get better at it would be irrelevant...you enjoy the journey; there is no rush.

Seems like this video is made for the culture that is always on a time crunch.

Hmmm I wonder why I was drawn to it. :geek:

Haven't watched it but from the comments and title will comment. This sounds like a very small scale version of what really happens. Skills aren't learned in 20 hours it takes forever to be good in anything.

The premise is that you have to overcome your emotion and boredom. The best way to truly do that is to use the momentum of emotion in your favor. You do this by being emotionally invested in what you do. I love systems, how they work, how data inter relates with other data. My desire to know and understand overcomes any boredom I might face in my path. Emotions are simply a tool in my toolbox and boredom doesn't stand a chance if I want to learn something.

Your still dancing around the issue because your not ready to face yourself. This may sound blunt but there isn't a way to say it that doesn't come off that way unfortunately. Your creating the illusions and then solving them. You've given yourself the idea that your making progress but it's really as though your in a fog and your wandering in a circle around the answer.

The answer is simple, resolve that you want to be solidified and you will be. Until then you won't make the progress you want.

Can you expand on this. What does it mean (thread specific) being solidified in your experience?

Everyone reaches a point where their technical knowledge as reached a point equal to or greater than what's required for critical mass. To "solidify" means to have that knowledge crystallize into a form that can be actually implemented in a pimp tight sense.

Solidification is the point where the balance of your intensity in moving forward exceeds the amount of energy being outputted to keep you still.

A picture is worth a thousand words 8-)

Thank you. I'd rather have the truth told to me even if it stings a bit.
