Remember seeing this a few years ago on tv, it struck me then. Came across it today again.

2Doc: The Work

Quote:
Video description translation: "Filmmakers Jairus McLeary and Gethin Aldous follow three men who are voluntarily incarcerated at Folsom State Prison in California. There they undergo a violent group therapy together with the detainees in which addiction, sadness, torn family ties and suicidal thoughts are discussed. This special therapy session takes place twice a year. During four days men from the outside get to know the men inside to fight their problems together. The detainees, including members of rock-hard gangs like The Aryan Brotherhood, act as experienced empathic fellow therapists during the sessions. Their participation in this type of group therapy is not without consequences for their life in prison; at the same time, successful participation affects their possible parole."

Wow. It actually aired on TV ? :o This is good news.

This was   :D

My brain wanted to comment on some things, I gathered a couple of quotes, and I feel it's useless though.

This is an emotional experience. Raw. Honest. All in the feels. So many things said resonate a lot.

This is a required watch for everyone that :
- wants to get in touch with their demons.
- wants to know what it is to be a man.
- ...

Thanks Grinus for this. Haven't heard of this work before.

I'll gladly continue the discussion once more people watch it.

What a touching documentary that goes well with the forum!

Emotional and raw, like you mentioned GB. I'm definitely going to watch it again at some point.

It allowed me to appreciate the work we do here more.

I felt a range of emotions and feelings throughout the film. From feeling judgmental all the way to feeling connected.

Very touching documentary. Thanks for sharing peregrinus.

Once you have a group of people that can get together around that, the thing that happens in that room, you start to forget it’s a prison. It’s just a bunch of men trying to get to the bottom of whatever it is for each other.

An article interview with the director of the film, Jairus McLeary - LINK

Great film and resource, thanks for the share peregrinus.

Two things from the article resonated were the importance of doing the work (push-ups) without judgement. It's the foundation for everything else to follow imo.

The other bit is how much work went into this documentary. A reminder to myself that good things take time and care. It's not a coincidence the documentary is worth watching.
