A monk was sitting in meditation. The master came along and asked, "What are you doing?" "I'm meditating to become a Buddha." The master picked up a brick and started polishing it, rubbing it. "What are you doing?" asked the monk. "I'm rubbing this brick to make it into a mirror." "With no amount of rubbing could you ever make a brick into a mirror," said the monk. And the master replied, "By no amount of Zazen could you become a Buddha." |
