He is basically sharing the choice he took for himself 30+ years ago, and rebranding it as an advice. Not useful in todays affairs for the youngsters.

I probably would show them this video and make'em watch this over and over, until it's crystal clear.

And then advice them to start thinking very seriously about this, and how it can extrapolate and apply the knowledge this video has, to the emotional realm; the younger they know this, the better.
