S08E04 :
Dexter : I need her in my life. (Debra, his sister)
Dr Vogel : You need her?
Dexter : Yes.
Dr Vogel : I understand that you love
Debra, in your own way.
Dexter : "In my own way."
Dr Vogel : But why do you think
you need her?
Dexter : I just do.
Dr Vogel : Deb looks up to you.
Isn't that what you said?
Dexter : She used to.
Dr Vogel : And that made you feel good
about yourself?
Dexter : Yes.
Dr Vogel : Well, no wonder
you feel so lost.
Debra became a mirror,
reflecting a positive image
of yourself
that you used to balance out
with the notion of yourself
as a monster.
Now that mirror is cracked,
and the only reflection you see
is one of darkness.
Dexter : You make it sound like
that part of me isn't real.
Dr Vogel : You are no monster.
You never have been.
Dexter : Anyone on my table
would disagree.
Dr Vogel : Dexter, a monster,
by definition,
is outside of nature,
but you're a part of
the natural order of things,
with purpose, and value.
A right to exist.
And when you come
to accept that,
you'll no longer be dependent
on Debra, or anyone's,
validation.
Dexter : I'll still want her in my life.
Dr Vogel : Want, but not need.
Dexter : [Sighs]
